The Historic
Mendenhall Blair House

The Mendenhall Blair House is a magnificent Greek Revival structure nestled in the heart of High Point, North Carolina. Built in 1852 by Elihu Emery Mendenhall, a prominent local businessman, Quaker and abolitionist, the house reflects the architectural style that was popular throughout the American South during the antebellum period.

Elihu Mendenhall, a descendant of Quakers who had settled in North Carolina, married Abigail Hill in 1848 and together started building their legacy. The Mendenhall Blair House was a testament to their success and served as a comfortable and elegant home for their growing family.

The house's Greek Revival design is characterized by its symmetrical facade, columns, pediment, and gabled roof. These architectural elements are emblematic of the style, which was inspired by classical Greek architecture. The Mendenhall Blair House also features a spacious interior with high ceilings, ornate moldings, and original fireplaces.

While the house is known for its architectural beauty, it also holds a significant place in the history of the region. The Mendenhall family is believed to have been involved in the Underground Railroad, a secret network of safe houses and routes used to help enslaved people escape to freedom. The house's location made it a strategic location for assisting those seeking a better life.

Today, the Mendenhall Blair House is a cherished landmark in High Point, carefully preserved and restored to its original glory. It has been transformed into an Airbnb, offering guests the unique opportunity to experience its history and beauty firsthand.
